Sugat Dark Brown Sugar is characterised by its particularly rich taste, very dark colour and soft, damp texture. It contains molasses (the natural syrup of sugar cane) and brown sugar crystals. The molasses is the element that gives this sugar its dark colour, sticky texture, special taste and aroma.
The sugar contains no additives or food colouring.
Sugat Classic Dark Brown Sugar is particularly suitable for baking rich fruitcakes and other pastries of rich texture. It is also good for making sweet and savoury sauces.
Classic Dark Brown Sugar is rich in molasses, which has many health benefits: 100 g of molasses contains 90% iron, 44.5 % calcium, 39% magnesium and 65% potassium of the daily recommended intake.
Classic brown sugar, dark and golden, is raw sugar that is less processed than white sugar. In the sugar production process, the sugar cane is crushed and the liquids are separated. The liquids are boiled and naturally transform into molasses and yellow crystal-shaped sugar grains. The difference in shade, dark or light, is determined by the percentage of natural molasses in the sugar. Brown sugar contains only natural, additive-free sugar from the sugar cane. When the sugar is dissolved in water, the yellow grains sink to the bottom and the colour of the water changes. Syrup melts faster than the crystals in hot water - therefore the molasses are released from the crystals and melt before the sugar crystals.
